Sunday 26th April: The Oblong Show

The Oblong Show

For over a year now Square Hole’s scintillatingly ridiculous sister night, The Oblong Show (or ‘Oblong’ to those in the know) has provided a home for comedic experimentation and utter daftness on a scale probably imaginable to people with healthy imaginations but certainly a challenge to those without. This month we embrace the inventive and idiosyncratic hilarity of the following individuals:

Dan Nicholas

Dan NicholasShortlisted for the BBC New Comedy Award, winner of the Nottingham Comedy Festival Best Newcomer, winner of the Hallam FM Grand Comedy Howler, finalist in numerous other competitions, and a critically acclaimed presence at the Edinburgh and Leicester comedy festivals, it’s hard to describe exactly what Dan Nicholas is, but here’s 35 words that attempt to do just that:

Comedian. Funny. Alternative. Interactive. Surreal. Deadpan. Jokes. Listening bits. Concerning. Shaking. Warped. Hilarious. Very interactive. Intimidating. Frightening. Lonely. Borderline psychotic. Silent. Pauses. Still interactive. Engaging. Dishevelled. Observational. One-liners. Charming. Slapstick. Handsome? Terrifying. Spindly. Dan. Nicholas.

‘Immensely brave use of Pinter-esque silences..a dangerous comedian who keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next outrageous non sequitur.’ – Western Gazette

‘his creativity is remarkable’ – Broadway Baby

‘Someone as inventive as this should have a future in comedy.’ – Chortle
