Monday 10th February

The time is upon us when the host and compère and booker and baker and promoter and support worker of Square Hole Comedy has to sit down and write a little bit of copy even though he could choose not to, as it isn’t even strictly necessary and most people probably skip this bit anyway. If you haven’t skipped this bit, you’re my favourite and it’s for you that I’ve invited this particular configuration of exponents of various forms and styles of comedy who have won prizes and told jokes on television. If you have read this bit but can’t make it to the gig then send a representative and they’ll be returned to you with a doggy bag.

Gary Delaney

Gary DelaneyA razor sharp one-liner comedian who is widely regarded as being the most quotable comic on the circuit, the high quantity of stand out gags in Delaney’s repertoire leaves audiences struggling to remember them all. He’s a torrent of wit who is a regular guest on Mock The Week and has appeared on Dave’s One Night Stand. Gary’s writing acumen has been employed by Radio 4’s The News Quiz, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Russell Howard’s Good News and others, and he will be slipping a bit of fresh stuff into his set so the comedy savvy Square Hole audience can assist in the honing of new material. With this responsibility you are faithfully entrusted.

‘Expect a cavalcade of brilliantly inventive puns from this master of the one-liner, a craftsman to be ranked along with likes of Tim Vine and Milton Jones’ – The Guardian

‘a hugely impressive collection of exquisitely crafted gags by one of Britain’s grandmasters of the one-liner’ – Chortle

‘Quickfire material of the very highest quality is pretty much guaranteed from the fast-thinking Delaney, a master of the deadpan one-liner’ – The Guardian

‘razor sharp one-liners’ – Daily Telegraph

‘master of the one-liner’ – The Scotsman

Staple/Face

Staple/FaceStaple/face are Mike Bentley, Tom Burgess and Sam Nicoresti and they they are very nice boys. They’re also incredibly talented and incredibly funny and have already made a name for themselves after winning the prestigious ‘So You Think That’s Funny’ Sketch Act of the Year award in Edinburgh in August, just months after they last performed at Square Hole. So you saw them here first and you can see them here again. They’re prolific and pro-laughter so it’s recommend you see them now if you missed them last time as this year they’ll likely win more accolades and probably even Wimbledon or something.

‘True belly-laughter… Excellently surreal and brilliantly pitched’ – Broadway Baby

‘By avoiding the classic clichés they offer something – dare I say it – genuinely different.’ – ThreeWeeks

‘Their performance skills and chemistry with the audience show a maturity way beyond their years.’ – Sketch Club

‘Staple/face mix quasi-retro familiarity with silliness and a touch of innovation to pull off something great’ – Views From The Gods
